Face Your Tech Fears (Like Eleanor Roosevelt Would)

Hi Reader,

"You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself, 'I have lived through this horror. I can take the next thing that comes along.' You must do the thing you think you cannot do."
~ Eleanor Roosevelt

This quote really hits home for me, especially when I think back to 2010. After 17 years as a stay-at-home mom, I took a part-time job as a receptionist in an avionics company. For over a year before that, I'd been applying for office jobs, but no one would hire me because I hadn't worked in an office since the mid-1980s. This company, though? They took a chance on me.

Here's the funny part - I thought I was fairly computer savvy, but I remember being completely stumped by their modern copy machines! In the 70s and 80s, these were mechanical contraptions with hard buttons and knobs. Now they were essentially computers with touchscreens and menus. That's when it hit me why other companies had been afraid to hire me - they worried I couldn't adapt to modern technology.

But you know what? I love to learn new things, so I dove right in. By the time I left three years later to return to education, I was working full-time as the RMA manager and helping the marketing department with data analysis. Talk about growth!

These days, as a solopreneur running an online business, I'm STILL constantly learning new technologies. Just the other night, I had to figure out how to get two software programs to talk to each other through a third one. (Yes, really!)

So, what does this have to do with photo management?

Many of us became family photo keepers long before computers and the internet existed. Just like those copy machines changed over time, best practices for photo preservation have evolved too - and yes, they involve technology. I know that can feel scary. It's tempting to stick with what's familiar, even if it's no longer the best way to create meaningful photo memory collections that will outlive us.

But here's what I want you to know: creating the best possible collection for your family might mean learning something new. And that's exactly why I'm here - to help you through that process, holding your hand every step of the way.

Ask yourself: Are you willing to face any fears you may have about using technology so you can create the best possible collection for you and your family?

If your answer is yes, then I invite you to check out The Family Photo Keeper Academy and see if it will help you meet your goals.

And if you're not quite ready for that commitment? Book a free Strategy Session so I can help you get started on this important project.

Warmly,

Fancy

Hi Reader, Sometimes lessons hide in the strangest places. You may know that I'm writing a novel - a project I've been working on for over 20 years. Last summer, I took what I thought would be a big step forward and joined a group program with a certified Book Coach. But sometimes the wrong fit can teach us the most valuable lessons. That first coach wanted to completely change my story. She didn't want the love interest to die (she wanted her to abandon the main character instead). She...

Hi Reader, Ever feel like your photo collection is less of a “project” and more of a full-on flood? Like you’re paddling through boxes and hard drives and framed prints with no idea where to start? You’re not alone. When I talk to people about organizing their photos, the most common word I hear is: overwhelm. They don’t know what’s important. They don’t feel confident with the tech. They don’t even know where to start. It feels like drowning. And yet—this project can be done. It just...
